La electrónica industrial es de vital importancia para los procesos industriales empleados en una empresa, debido a que es una herramienta para llevar a cabo con mayor facilidad las labores industriales y generar buenos resultados en la producción industrial. Por lo tanto, la electrónica aplicada a la industria juega un papel fundamental en el crecimiento de los procesos de una empresa.
Los equipos de medición y registro, control y comunicaciones de aplicación industrial son actualmente electrónicos y por esta razón, todos aquellos responsables de la instalación, manejo y mantenimiento de los mismos, deben conocer las características de sus circuitos y componentes.
Además de ser una electrónica de potencia basada en dispositivos capaces de manejar elevadas tensiones y elevadas corrientes, también se apoya en dispositivos de control formados por microcontroladores y automatizaciones, siendo la automatización un sistema que sigue una secuencia previamente establecida. Esta secuencia puede ser cableada o programada en un autómata programable o en un microcontrolador.
